Mention in mythology/history

There is a fascinating story which many people think is how this place got its name. Turns out, Lord Shiva’s son Karthikey after losing a game from his brother Lord Ganesh came to this place to mediate. To pacify is anger, goddess Parvati came to the place and created a flow from rice pudding (kheer). So, kheer-ki-ganga when translated means river of rice pudding.

The trek for Kheerganga starts at Kasol. There is a distance of about 22 kilometer between the places. There are various types of treks which one can take. While some prefer to go the complete distance, others can do it in part journey.

Things to see near Kheerganga

Though the trek is the major highlight in this place but there are a few other things that you can do too. One of the things that you’ll definitely enjoy is taking a stroll around the green lush forests. You can take a dip in the freshwater spring that will leave you feel rejuvenated and you can also bathe in the sulphur spring. Other than that you can also visit Manikaran Gurdwara and Shiva-Parvati Temple.
